Today we reviewed what an inference is and made improvements to the inferences that students made during the Check Lab. Lab discussion questions are assigned for homework.

Today in class students started a new lab activity that will focus on scientific principles, measuring and graphing. Today students were assigned the Pumpkin Launcher Challenge and planned and white-boarded with their groups ideas of how to build a pumpkin launcher.
Today students put their knowledge of observation and inference to the test in the Candy Lab. Students were given 6 different types of candy and asked to make some qualitative observations, quantitative observations and inferences about the different candies.
Today students put their detective skills to the test and made some qualitative observations, quantitative observations and inferences about a series of checks pulled in groups from an envelope. From the observations they gathered they made inferences on what could have possibly happened to this family. As more checks are pulled, the more interesting the plot becomes and the more the inferences change.
Today in class we finished the Observation and Inference Activity and recorded the results in Page 8 of our notebooks. Then for homework due on 9/23/16 students will do a Observation and Inference Card Sort.
Today we took notes on Observation and Inference observation_and_inference.pptx in our graphic organizer that was posted on 9/20/16. Then we did an activity where students had to look at pictures and make 4 observations, 4 inferences, 3 questions about the picture and share 2 pieces of prior knowledge that they may have. Then after the group was done with their pictures, they had to go around to other groups and with stick notes add to the observations, inferences, questions or prior knowledge or correct any information that other groups may have put in the wrong place. Such as an observation that was under the inference section. Once this is done, students are allowed to make revisions on their boards and record the information in Page 8 of their interactive notebook.
Today in class we took a small Claim, Evidence Reasoning quiz. Result should be back by Thursday! Then students cut out an Observation/Inference interactive foldable.observationinferenceinteractive.pdf Tomorrow notes will be taken on this foldable and be added to page 7 of the students interactive notebook.
It was a pleasure meeting parents last night! Thank you for being good sports and really sampling what your students will be experiencing while in my classroom. The activity we did last night was so much fun! openhouseactivity.pdfHere are a few pictures of parents in action:)
Today we practiced Claim Evidence and Reasoning again. We used the Case of Mr. Xavier's Murder Mystery to help us practice. We then used the white boards to explain the claim, evidence and reasoning.
Today we went over Claim, Evidence, Reasoning again as a class. Together we did a highlighting activity that allowed students to pick out Claim, Evidence, Reasoning using 3 different colored highlighters, this gave students more practice with Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning. After this activity students were assigned homework that it due Monday 9/19. This is the practice activity-guided_highlight.pdf
