Today in class students discovered the phenomenon of Open Systems this discovery will be built upon in the upcoming weeks to include Closed Systems, Ecosystem, Interaction of Spheres. To begin our discovery students observed our Open System and answered guided questions to help them out with discovering more about Open System. Each student individually wrote 7 observations and then answered the guided questions. Then students assigned small groups. Groups given large sheets of paper to combine observations, display answers to the guided questions, make a labeled diagram of the Open System and post any questions that they may have about this discovery.

Today in class we continued on our Graphing Notes located in page 10 in our interactive notebooks. Then we started notes inside our foldables of Independent and Dependent Variables located in pages 11-12 of our interactive notebook. Attached are the notes and pictures of our foldables.
Today we worked on graphing the results of the lab. We also started taking graphing notes. The lab is due on 10/4/16.
Group results. We spent the entire hour getting results of the lab from all 9 groups in class. We also found the average distance and average time for both trials.
Today students revised and rebuilt their Army Launcher. Monday 10/3/16 they will finish graphing the results of the lab. Lab is due Tuesday 10/4/16.
Students used the supplies given to create an Army Launcher. They had 10 minutes to construct the launcher. After, student did an original trial of the launcher that measured the distance from the starting line and the time it took from the second the man was launched to the second the man hit the ground. Students had 3 trials and then averaged the distances and times. Tomorrow, students will have 10 minutes to revise their launchers and retest their designs.
Today students had 10 minutes to revise their original launcher design. When the 10 minutes was up, student retested their launchers. Again, student measure the time and distance and recorded each trail and then found the averages.
Students tested their Pumpkin Launchers today! They measure the time it took from the second the pumpkin was launched to the time it hit the ground and they measured the distance the pumpkin launched from the start line. They did 3 trials for distance and time then, students added the distance together and divided by 3 to get the average distance.
Then did the same to find the average time. Today we discussed the Check Lab and then turned in the lab. Later in the hour, student were given the task to design an Army Launcher. This challenge is to see who can design a launcher that would launch an Army Man the furthest. This lab will focus on measurement and graphing skills. It will also teach students that mistakes are proof that you are trying!
